FAQs
1. What training methods do you use?
I only use force-free and positive reinforcement based dog training methods that are backed by the latest science and nurture your dog's wellbeing.
2. What is positive reinforcement training?
Positive reinforcement training is not 'just giving your dog lots of treats' - it's about setting your learner up for success so you can reward the behaviour you like, teach the behaviour you want, and redirect the behaviour you don't. Training that's free of force, fear and intimidation is most effective in fostering confident and secure dogs with strong, trusting relationships with their humans!
3. Are there any dog breeds you don't train?
Nope! My training methods work for every dog - no matter their size, age, gender or breed.
4. Where do the training sessions take place?
Sessions are conducted in the comfort of your home to ensure a familiar and distraction-free environment for your dog. I can also offer virtual sessions if it works better for you.
5. How long is each session?
Each session lasts 60 minutes (except for the Initial Consultation which is 1.5 to 2 hours long), allowing plenty of time for learning, practice, and discussion!
6. How many sessions will my dog need?
Dog training is not a one-size-fits-all thing. The number of sessions you or your dog will need depends on your goals and you and your dog’s progress. It will also depend on your preferences and expectations. Additional sessions can always be requested once a package has been purchased.
7. What do I need to prepare for a training session?
I will send you an initial Contact Form and Canine History questionnaire prior to our first meeting. Before the session, prepare a quiet space, free of distractions, and have some treats and toys to hand (these will also be provided unless your dog has any allergies or special requirements). For virtual sessions, ensure you have a device with a working camera and a quiet space for training.
8. Do you offer group classes?
I currently focus on private, one-on-one training to provide personalised attention and care. However, if you’re interested in group classes, let me know and I can update you on future options.
9. How are your sessions structured?
Each session is tailored to meet your goals and your dog’s individual needs. We’ll focus on key skills, problem-solving, and practical exercises that fit your lifestyle.
10. Can you help with specific behaviour problems?
Yes! Whether you’re addressing common challenges like counter-surfing or pulling on lead, or more complex issues like fear, anxiety and reactivity, I can provide a wealth of knowledge and strategies to help you and your dog live happily and harmoniously.
