FAQs
1. What training methods do you use?
My training methods are rooted in modern, evidence-based and force-free techniques that are backed by science and promote your dog's welfare.
2. What is positive reinforcement training?
Positive reinforcement training is not 'just giving your dog lots of treats' - it's about focussing on what you do want your dog to do over what you don't want your dog to do. when we reward a dog for doing something we like with things they love and enjoy, we can increase the future frequency of the rewarded behaviour.
And training that's free of force, fear and intimidation is the most effective kind when it comes to fostering confident and secure dogs with strong and trusting relationships with their humans.
3. Where do the training sessions take place?
Sessions are conducted in the comfort of your home to ensure a familiar and distraction-free environment for your dog. Later sessions can take place in a nearby outdoor location if appropriate. I can also offer virtual sessions if it works better for you.
4. How long is each session?
Each session lasts 60 minutes (except for the Initial Consultation which is 1.5 to 2 hours long), allowing plenty of time for learning, practice, and discussion!
5. How many sessions will my dog need?
Dog training is not a one-size-fits-all thing. The number of sessions you or your dog will need depends on your goals, and you and your dog’s progress. It will also depend on your preferences, expectations and practice! You can continue to top up you and your dog's training with additional sessions or packs as you go.
6. What do I need to prepare for a training session?
I will send you an initial Contact Form and Canine History questionnaire prior to our first meeting. Before the session, prepare a quiet space, free of distractions, and have some treats to hand (these will also be provided unless your dog has any allergies or special requirements). For virtual sessions, ensure you have a device with a working camera and microphone and a quiet space for training.
7. Do you offer puppy training?
Yes! Early training is one of the best investments you can make. I can help with toilet training, socialisation, crate training, basic cues, and preventing problem behaviours before they start.
8. Do you offer group classes?
I currently focus on private, one-on-one training to provide personalised attention and care. However, if you’re interested in group classes, let me know and I can update you on future options.
9. How are your sessions structured?
Each session is tailored to meet your goals and your dog’s individual needs. We’ll focus on key skills, problem-solving, and practical exercises that fit you, your dog and your lifestyle.
10. Can you help with specific behaviour problems?
Yes! Whether you’re addressing common challenges like jumping up or pulling on lead, or more complex issues like resource guarding, anxiety and/or reactivity, I can provide a wealth of knowledge and practical guidance to help you and your dog live happily and harmoniously together.
